CWA Case Study

Creating a state-of-the-art media centre from dated workshop space

Client: Savills/Stationer’s Crown Wood Academy (SCWA)
Location: Eltham, Greenwich
Industry: Education
Services we provided:
Mechanical and Electrical Design Consultancy

Background

Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy is a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme. Located in Eltham, Greenwich. The academy offers first-class education to the local community.

The Brief

Two dated design technology workshops were to be converted into a state-of-the-art digital media centre for KS3, KS4 and KS5 students. Space was to be used for lecturing, media studies and film (including the use of a ‘green screen)’.

Challenges

The challenges that we had to overcome included:

  • Achieving the ambition of the project, and architectural vision, with a modest budget.
  • Creating a functional lighting design with a contemporary feel that is carefully coordinated with the suspended slidable screens.
  • Modifying existing mechanical and electrical services to ensure the project was viable.

Outcome

The process was delivered on time and to budget meeting the brief and client’s high expectations.

The media suite is in use today to enhance the delivery of the school’s digital curriculum, encouraging students to engage with the creative tools available and learn new skills.
